First Collaborative European Freshwater Science Project for Young Researchers – call for proposals

EFFS Award for the best PhD Dissertation in Freshwater Sciences – call 2015-16
 
The European Federation of Freshwater Sciences (EFFS), of which the Freshwater Biological Association (FBA) is a founding member, has jointly developed a call for proposals for projects from young Freshwater scientists across Europe and the EFFS Award for outstanding scientific and intellectual work in Freshwater Science performed by early career researchers in Europe.

First Collaborative European Freshwater Science Project for Young Researchers 
 
The fund aims to support early career freshwater scientists by encouraging synergistic interactions among young researchers across Europe leading to new knowledge, promoting networking among young European Limnologists, and offering experience in generating research ideas, acquiring funding, planning and carrying out a collaborative international scientific project.
 
Who can apply? Masters, PhD or early Post-Doctoral researchers can submit proposals. The final team must include at least one participant affiliated to the Freshwater Biological Association, a limnological society within EFFS, or societies in Austria, Germany, Italy, Spain/Portugal, Switzerland or the United Kingdom.
 
Duration: The project should be completed within two years, and the report published within three months of project close. A paper should be submitted to a peer-reviewed journal within three years of the start of the project.
 
Funding: 8,000 euros (including VAT), which can be supplemented by funds provided by the participants. This budget may cover consumables and travel expenses, conference fees and publication costs. Salaries and non-consumable materials cannot be paid by the budget.
 
Deadline: 12am (GMT) 31 January 2016 with announcement by the judges no later than 29 February 2016.

EFFS Award for the best PhD Dissertation in Freshwater Sciences 
 
EFFS launches a new call of its Award for the best PhD Dissertation in Freshwater Sciences, recognising outstanding scientific and intellectual work in the field of Freshwater Sciences performed by early career researchers in Europe.
 
Who can apply? All authors of doctoral theses submitted in Europe in the field of Freshwater Sciences, and defended during 2015-16, can apply. Applicants should be members of the Freshwater Biological Association or other Associations related to Freshwater Sciences and affiliated to the European Federation for Freshwater Sciences (EFFS). The PhD dissertation can be written in any European language.
 
Award: Main prize: Diploma and grant for registration fee, travel and lodging to next SEFS meeting. Two subsidiary prizes: Diploma and grant for registration fee to next SEFS meeting.
 
The winning author will give a dedicated Plenary Lecture on his/her PhD dissertation topic at the next Symposium for European Freshwater Sciences (SEFS) and all three theses will be exhibited.
 
Deadline: Each Association can submit two selected PhD dissertations for the final evaluation by 31 January 2016.
