Postdoc: Detecting Disturbance and Ecosystem Response in Continental Observatory Networks

This is a 2 year project funded through the NSF EAGER-NEON Macrosystems program. We are seeking a creative and innovative postdoctoral researcher to investigate the effectiveness of observation networks in detecting disturbance and ecosystem response over North America. Specifically, we are interested in how disturbance is affecting the net carbon balance of ecosystems and how observation networks, such as NEON, Ameriflux, and NOAA, can be combined to identify how different disturbance mechanisms are altering ecosystem carbon dynamics. Graduate Position in Wetland Algal Ecology, Florida

A PhD graduate assistantship is available in the Department of Biological Sciences at Florida International University (FIU) (http://biology.fiu.edu) to conduct research in the Florida Everglades, beginning fall 2016. This position is affiliated with the Florida Coastal Everglades Long Term Ecological Research program and will include integrative field and experimental research approaches, and public outreach. We are seeking an individual with experience in ecosystem services to work with us to assess the value and services of these unique ecosystems. The individual will be based at the Large Lakes Observatory in Duluth, Minnesota and they will also interact closely with the Natural Capital project and others on the U. Minnesota Twin Cities campus. Full-time support is available for one year with continuation dependent on further funding. Essential qualifications include PhD in ecology, natural resources, economics or allied field along with formal training in the subject of ecosystem services and experience writing for peer-reviewed publication. Graduate Research Opportunity: Aquatic Carbon Biogeochemistry and Microbial Ecology

A graduate assistantship is available to carry out either a Master’s or Ph.D. thesis in the Aquatic Ecology Group of the Université du Québec à Montréal (UQÀM). Postdoctoral Position in Aquatic Microbial Ecology, Germany

The Postdoc will focus on bacterial colonization and degradation of artificial model aggregates as well as natural macroscopic organic aggregates. The project aims to parameterize important aggregate features such as size, porosity and sinking velocity as well as microbial parameters including bacterial colonization, bacterial production, respiration and enzymatic activities. The Postdoc will combine state-of-the-art microbial, molecular and biochemical analyses in experimental and natural ecosystems and will work in close collaboration with the postdoc of the physics group at the MPI for Marine Microbiology in Bremen. The Stuart Jones Lab is seeking a creative and quantitatively savvy Ph.D. with significant research experience in aquatic ecology, ecosystem modeling, or ecohydrology. We expect applicants to have demonstrable experience in one or more of the previously mentioned fields, including substantial publications in peer-reviewed journals.
