Postdoc Position: Modeling Fish Response to Water Level Drawdown

We are looking for a postdoctoral researcher to develop bioenergetic or dynamic energy budget models in order to explore potential effects of drawdown on growth and reproduction of littoral fishes via changes in macroinvertebrate prey availability and habitat structure. This postdoctoral position is funded for 1 year, with an expected start date around 1 June 2015. The postdoc will be based at McGill University and supervised by Dr. Chris Solomon and Dr. Irene Gregory-Eaves. Applicants with experience developing dynamic energy budgets or bioenergetics modeling and fish ecology are preferred. To apply, send a CV and letter of interest to chris.solomon@mcgill.ca (subject line: drawdown postdoc). Review of applications will begin 1 May 2015.

Two Post Doctoral Researcher positions in Limnology, University of Nevada

The University of Nevada’s Aquatic Ecosystem Analysis Laboratory invites applications for two postdoctoral research associates in limnology. The first position will focus on invertebrate ecology of freshwaters, quantifying interannual species biodiversity, secondary production, and these relationships to food web structure in alpine lakes. The second position will focus on understanding lake metabolism including algal composition from lakes with varying nutrient gradients. The positions will remain open until filled with a preferred start date of May 15, 2015 which is negotiable.

Data-intensive ecological research assistant, Washington State University

We seek a full-time research assistant to provide support for a diverse set of projects related to environmental sciences, including analyses of long-term ecological data, frequently but not always with a focus on freshwater science. Responsibilities will include managing, documenting, and publishing data sets; collaborating on analyses of existing data; and assisting with project management and logistics. Review will begin on 15 April 2015. Ideally the position will begin on 1 June 2015 to allow a period of overlap and training with the outgoing research assistant.

Postdoctoral opportunity in Aquatic Carbon Biogeochemistry and Landscape Ecology

A postdoctoral position is currently available to explore connections between aquatic C biogeochemistry, hydrology and geography in boreal aquatic networks. Potential topics include, among others, landscape-level patterns in aquatic C processing and greenhouse gas dynamics, links between regional-scale hydrological patterns and aquatic C biogeochemistry, and the role of aquatic network architecture on regional aquatic biogeochemical processes. The project focuses on boreal lakes and rivers in northern Québec, but comparative work in temperate and subarctic systems in Québec and elsewhere will also be carried out. Starting date: Spring/summer 2015.
