Carbon emissions from ponds

Ponds vastly outnumber larger lakes worldwide and are hotspots for biogeochemical processing.  As a result, ponds play a disproportionately large role in the global carbon budget for inland waters.  The aim of this project is to expand our global dataset on carbon emissions from ponds, and evaluate drivers of carbon flux.  We are especially interested in evaluating how pond characteristics influence emissions, including factors such as mixing, surface area, depth, water clarirty, and productivity.  To address this research question, we are conducting field campaigns in 2018 and 2019 along with compiling existing data sources.  We are interesed in data from all ponds (typically <3 m max depth and <0.5 km2), and look forward to our dataset representing ponds with diverse characterstics (e.g., productivity, water clarity, size).Join us on social media: #PONDING
