  • Q1: Do I need to be a GLEON member to submit the G17 Request to Particpate (RTP) or Registration to attend G17?
    A1: No, anyone interested in *attending can submit both forms. GLEON membership is not a requirement for attending GLEON meetings. However, you will be expected to become a member when you decide to join GLEON collaborative efforts (e.g. projects, working groups, experiments) that require all team members involved agree to the GLEON Operating Principles & Procedures.

  • Q2: What is G17 RTP for? How is it different from the G17 Registration and why the need of both?
    A2:
    1. RTP is the first step in expressing your interest in attending G17;
    2. RTP gives you the opportunity to request some *financial support to attend G17;
    3. The RTP information you submitted helps inform the Program Committee in planning the agenda, and the Local Organizing Committee to estimate the number of participants, plan suitable logistics and manage budgets.
    4. Your RTP entry is not a registration nor confirmation of hotel booking.
    5. Registration will ask more details of your G17 participation plans (e.g. dietary preference, workshop(s), NPP, field trips sign-ups). Your Registration is essential for organizers to finalize G17 the G17 program and meals for you.

      *Very limited availability. We strongly encourage you to seek alternative resources to fund your G17 travel plans.

  • Q3: What's next after I submit G17 RTP?
    A3:
    1. You may expect to receive a notification via email with G17 travel award decision (with some support or of regrets for no support) by 23 August 2015.
    2. If you are not requesting travel support from GLEON to attend G17, please go head to book accommodation (4 August ~ 4 September) and complete G17 Registration (by Monday 7 September 2015).
    3. *ATTENTION - STUDENTS*: if you are requesting some travel funding support from GLEON, please submit G17 Student Travel Award Application in addition to G17 RTP.
    4. Students in the current cohort of GLEON Fellowship: please follow the instructions from the Fellowship Program leadership team. 
  • Q4: How will I receive the G17 financial support if I am awaded a G17 travel award?
    *A4: The travel award will be issued by one of the two institutions below with respective eligible funding source. A G17 travel award recipient will receive the support from only one funding source (not both).

    a. Via *University of Wisconsin Madison: the travel award recipients will be asked to return an acceptance form with signature, postal address (for U.S.-based reicipients) or bank information (only for those outside of the U.S.). The award will be posted to you in a check or wired to your bank account in late September ~ mid October.
    b. Via University of California at Merced: the travel award recipients will be contacted by NSF SAVI/SAFER project PI Tom Harmon. Exact payment terms and travel documentation/reimbursement details will be provided in the award notification letter.

    *For current & recent University of Wisconsin employees. You will receive separate instructions if you are awarded G17 travel support or please follow up with gshong[a]wisc[dot]edu.
     

  • Q5: What if I missed the deadline to submit G17 RTP - can I still register to attend G17?
    A5: Yes. You are welcome to attend G17 - provided you can say yes to all of statements below:
    1. I have secured my own travel funds to cover all G17 related expenses;
    2. I have obtained visa(s) required to visit South Korea;
    3. I have submited G17 Registration successfully by Monday 7 September 2015 (12pm US EDT | UTC-4) OR before any GLEON e-mail announcement on limitation of number of participants (registration is on first-come, first-served basis).
