Consequences of lake ice loss on human activities

Over the past 150 years, seasonal ice cover duration on Northern Hemisphere lakes has been decreasing. Ice cover loss may impact ecosystem services, but detailed as well as comprehensive studies evaluating the interplay between ice-covered lakes and society are lacking. This study provides quantitative evidence that the loss of lake ice reduces the diverse cultural ecosystem services provided by lake ice.
