The GLEON Post-student Association (GPA) was established in 2025 to foster a supportive community and provide opportunities for leadership, professional development, and building global connections for post-student members. The GPA aims to represent and advocate for the unique challenges and opportunities of GLEON members who are no longer students but are not yet in long-term or permanent positions. These may include, but are not limited to, positions such as postdocs, research assistants, and research associates.
The GPA is run by and for GLEON post-student members, with collaboration from the GLEON Steering Committee and GLEON Student Association, to ensure activities strengthen and compliment the whole of the GLEON community. The group is led by a chair and a co-chair. Any GLEON member who falls into the “post student” category (self-identifying) is welcome to be a member. Sign up to the mailing-list to hear more about our activities.
The GPA seeks to enhance GLEON by introducing new initiatives and supporting existing activities that specifically support GLEON members at this particular career stage. For example:
- GLEON champion support network and training
- Peer-peer grant writing support
- Administration of a jobs board
- Professional development events, panels, and networking
- Navigating career moves
- Hosting of GLEON network meet-ups at conferences
We are still in the early stages of implementing this vision for GPA activities and encourage those that are interested to provide feedback and suggestions on ways the GPA can contribute to the GLEON community and represent GPA member interests.
