Acknowledging Collaboration
GLEON’s success depends on collaborations among its members which asks for mutual trust. GLEON members are encouraged to be broadly inclusive and cognizant that knowledge and data sharing presents opportunities for collaboration and co-authorship. Co-authorship, or an offer of co-authorship, may be appropriate in instances where knowledge and data are used, or intellectual contribution is derived from the activities of GLEON.

Authorship in GLEON
Be inclusive and invitational, co-authorship requires proactivity
Start with discussion on co-authorships at the start of the project
Express co-authorship expectations
Use an established template to assess and assign authorship roles (e.g., GLEON authorship contribution template, implementations of CRediT : CRediTas, tenzing, etc.)
Frequently revisit authorship contributions and expectations
Click here for a list of CRediT taxonomy terms and definitions.
The role of data providers in GLEON
In GLEON project we ask for collaboration, not for data
Offer co-authorship or opportunity of co-authorship
If using published data, refer to DOI of dataset if available or cite the relevant paper in which the data is described
Project Champions
The people that lead and coordinate the collaborative projects in GLEON are known as “project champions.” Members with experience serving in this role created a guidance document.
